Means of transportationOn foot
The historic centre of Florence is not too big, so travelling on foot is a good option. This way, you won’t miss all of the beautiful palaces that maybe aren’t featured in the guide you’ll probably be holding.
By bus
There’s plenty of buses to go around Florence. It is a good option if you have to travel long distances. You can find a fully informative site in English, complete with routes of all buses, at ATAF Florence. It is very good, even though they claim you can buy tickets and passes on-line and, at least at the moment, you can’t.
By bike
Going around by bike can be a good idea, even though you might not really need it if you’re visiting the centre. Mind the cobblestone streets, if you decide to cycle your way through the narrow streets of old Florence!
By car
Renting a car or arriving by car to Florence is not a great idea if you want to go sightseeing, since most of the centre is or will be closed to car traffic, and the streets can get jammed very easily elsewhere.
